Reflections and Resolutions

I wanted to put up a post of my favorite twelve books of 2009. But, despite the fact that I read tons of books, I couldn't actually find twelve favorites that really excited me enough to be considered a favorite. So, instead of just posting my FAVORITE 2009 books, I will include a few that I consider great books and would still recommend people to read (some of these books may not have actually been published in 2009, but I read them in 2009, so they make the list).

1. Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
2. Fire by Kristin Cashore
3. Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
4. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
5. Need by Carrie Jones
6. Catching Fire by Suzanne Jones
7. Intertwined by Gena Showalter
8. Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception by Maggie Stiefvater
9. Ballad: A Gathering of Faerie by Maggie Stiefvater
10. City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments book 3) by Cassandra Clare
11. City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments book 2) by Cassandra Clare
12. City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments book 1) by Cassandra Clare

I've tried my best to put those in order, starting with my favorite. It's a close call between Shiver and Fire. I am in love with both Maggie's and Kristin's writing styles. Simply gorgeous! If you haven't read any of these books in 2009, definitely pick them up for 2010.

And now that I am done reflecting on the books I've read, I think it's time to look ahead. I have come up with a few resolutions that I hope I can stick to in 2010.

1. Write more = finish draft 1 of novel!!
2. Exercise more, lose a little weight (that means actually using the gym membership I'm paying for and probably riding the bike my husband bought for me)
3. Pay off some debt! = decrease stress level

How about you? Any favorite books of 2009 that I didn't mention? Any good resolutions for the new year?

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!! Have fun and be safe!

  1. Hi! Well, I've pulled myself off my couch long enough to comment on your blog, haven't blogged on my own yet though. I actually have a 2009 favorites and a 2010 goals post I'm going to post as soon as I can actually breath through my nose again, but for now I will comment on yours. :) Great list, SHIVER makes my top list of course! MY all time top book is THE HOST and one of my 2010 goals is to write my first novel draft ever. Yeay! Go us. :) 2010 here we come! Oh, and I want to loose 10 more pounds before the next twi movie. Yep. Congrats on your new writing and biking gear too. You are gonna rock it! Good luck with your list and great list of books. We will keep each other honest. I'll post mine soon... (remind me if I don't.)

  2. We really need to help eachother stick to those goals. I am such a procrastinator! Time just gets away from me sometimes. I must be getting old... :)

  3. Yes, I need help sticking to them too! I haven't even finished my list, isn't that sad. Ugh. Although, this is the first year in a long time that I've even written one and I told myself I had this month to do it so I'm okay. I'm setting goals and posting before my blogoversary and bday so I have two weeks! :) Then only 11 months, can you believe that? Crazy. I never used to be such a procrastinator, maybe as we get older we get worse. We don't want time to pass so we don't do it? That doesn't seem right? Okay, we will help each other stick to our goals. Thanks for posting, we can do it! And we aren't that old...yet. :) BTW, I think I mentioned Julie and Julia? I totally recommend watching it soon, I think it will put you in the mood for this exact thing that we are talking about doing. It made me think this way too. Julia even had a "pen pal" that she wrote for years and years before actually meeting in person (I think in Paris too, lol). Anyway, the whole blogging and setting a goal and book project thing...definitely a good watch! :) I actually wasn't even sure I'd like the movie and now I'm really inspired by it...
